Menstrual ProblemMenstrual cycle is a deadly truth of girls’ life that she has to deal with every month. This is firstly a major change in the body at the time of adolescence to cope with; and secondly it also brings several other problems along with it, thereby making it more complex to endure. However, there are antidotes to these common menstrual disorders but,

each of them depends on the root cause of existence of the menstrual problem. The causes can vary according to the influences made by changes in general health, unexpected weight loss or weight gain, stressful lifestyle, certain infections, metabolic disorders and hormonal as well as anatomical changes in the body.

Common menstrual problems experienced by girls:Irregular menses is a common problem that most of the girls undergo. The menstrual irregularities can be classified as follows:

Amenorrhoea- It is the condition in which girls tend to skip their menses for more than three successive menstrual cycles. It may be a situation in which either a girl does not start to menstruate at all or menstruation discontinues after a certain period of time.

Menorrhagia-In this, a girl tends to bleed unusually heavy and also the bleeding is coagulated and continues for longer period of time, although happening at regular intervals.

Hypomenorrhea or Oligomenorrhoea- The menstrual cycle, in this condition is sporadic with gap of more than 40 days. Also the bleeding is tremendously light and meager.

PMS (Premenstrual syndrome) - Before the inception of the menstrual cycle, girls experience many painful symptoms like lower back pain, body pain, weakness, leg pain, cramping and many more. They can last for a short while, may be few hours or days, but some can also last after the menses are over. Also some are extreme and can perturb the normal functioning of the person. These symptoms are called as premenstrual syndrome.

Taking care in menstrual cycle:

  • Relax more and avoid doing tasks that involve physical stress.
  • If opting for supplements, take care they contain Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin B complex, and folic acid.
  • During menstrual cycle it is very important to be concerned about hygiene and so keep on changing the sanitary pads as per the requirement. Also don’t forget to choose pH balanced products for your genitals.

Some herbal teas like raspberry leaf tea and cramp bark tea have been known to relieve menstrual cramps.
